Webster Technique
Gentle Chiropractic Care to Support Pelvic Balance During Pregnancy
The Webster technique is a certification many chiropractors who are interested in caring for pregnant mothers, acquire.
Webster is a specific analysis and accompanied adjustments that help support the mother as she goes through pregnancy. The changes in a mother’s body throughout pregnancy impact not only the spine and pelvis, but also of the supporting ligaments.
Webster analysis includes the supporting ligaments of the pelvis around the SI joints, but also the round ligaments, the psoas muscles, and pubic bone, on top of the regular analysis to help identify subluxation and stress on the nervous system. Adjustments are done in a neutral position and are modified throughout pregnancy.
We use supportive pillows that allow mom to safely and comfortably lay on their belly – and this is such an amazing feeling for mom!
While many associate Webster technique to help reposition a breech or transverse baby, this is not the purpose of this technique. However, many moms with a mal positioned baby are recommended Webster – so why is that?
When Webster analysis, specific adjustments and ligament work are applied, it helps to get the pelvis and supportive structures in proper tone and balance. Oftentimes when the baby is mal positioned, it is due to the torsion and tension within mom’s pelvis. This is not the only reason why baby may be in an unfavorable position – it can depend on things like the shape of the uterus, the length of the umbilical cord, position of the placenta, etc. but when mom’s pelvis is relaxed and moving well – baby has a much better chance of getting head down and engaged.
Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy has been so foundational for our patients! Not just for mom, but for baby, too!
